Title: Wondering, Wandering Shoots Awaken
About This Work:
This series of graphite drawings explore the physical changes, throughout the pandemic of the hydrangeas in my backyard. I marked the paper influenced by my emotional landscape of fear, anxiety and isolation.
In the spring and summer, voluptuous blooms exuded hope, transforming from one moody colour to another. In the fall the multi-pedalled snowballs fade to shadowy silhouettes of their former glory. The snow piled heavy on the pedalled heads force each one closer to a rising tide of white ground.
In these drawings I engage in a survival ritual, drawing as an act of resilience recording the fluctuation of my state of mind from joyous to melancholy and despair to hope.
How This Work Was Made:
I created the drawings in this series using graphite pencils, sticks and large bars. Some drawings include watercolour and occasionally oil pastel and coloured pencil.
This original graphite drawing is drawn on 22x30in Somerset 100% rag paper. This original drawing will be shipped rolled in a tube or flat depending on the destination.
