Guanlan Printmaking Base
residency
Guanlan Printmaking Base, China 2009
The Guanlan Printmaking Base is a fully equipped printmaking facility dedicated to connecting printmakers from all over the world. During her residency Cornelius met five printmakers from Europe – Alexandra Barbosa, Javier Albar Mansoa, Pablo Casado, Moises Yagues and Leon Zakrajsek. Cornelius also met Shan Dan and Wan Chi from Mongolia, Loo Foh Sang from Malaysia, Jane Sui Lui from Hong Kong, and four printmakers from other parts of China. Several other artists from Hong Kong and China also visited during her stay. Cornelius was excited by Li Xiu’s work and was able to spend some time with her and communicate through a translator.
It was a valuable experience to meet national and international printmakers, see their work, exchange printmaking knowledge, expertise and other opportunities in the printmaking world.
The Guanlan Printmaking Base is funded by the Shenzhen Bao’an District People’s Government, the China Artists Association and the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In addition to the printmaking workshop and international residency program, they fund the Guanlan International Print Biennial and have built a printmaking museum on the campus.
