Electro-Etching
This work was created using electro-etching that is a process in which electrolysis is used to remove selected areas of a metal plate. A resist is applied to the plate just as in traditional etching but the type of resist used for electro-etching must be made of materials that block the electrical current.
I use a soy-based BIG Baldwin Intaglio hard ground as a resist. The BIG ground is applied and hardened on the plate before the lines are drawn through the ground with a metal needle. The plate is placed in a sulfate and water bath directly opposite another plate of the same metal and connected to an electric current that pulls metal from the exposed lines of the positive plate. To create tonal areas, I made an acrylic stop out and I enhanced the gratuitous electro-tint tone with spray paint.
Packaging:
I care about how my art practice impacts the environment. I'm pleased to say that all the packaging for my smaller prints (backing, protective sleeves, etc.) are all recyclable, and are also made from recycled materials. I source them from Canadian companies, and I also use a Canadian printing shop to produce them. I really truly care about producing quality products to share with you.
