First Nations, All Nations: Setting the Table brought indigenous mothers and newcomer mothers and children together with a focus on sharing stories, food and experience. The First Nations mothers were able to introduce the Newcomer moms to Canada.
Karen Cornelius translated the stories into an iconic image that reflected the women’s personal story telling. The image was silkscreened on a tablecloth for each participant. One table cloth was embroidered by the women working side by side sharing conversation and stories.
A celebratory gathering of the women and their families sharing bread from all cultures cooked in the community oven was held in the park by the river as a fit closing for this project.
