The Hong Kong Project was established in 2002 with an artistic vision of creating residency opportunities for printmakers from East and West. The Hong Kong Residency was hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Education in partnership with the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and supported by the Cultural Affairs Department of the Canadian Embassy in Hong Kong and the Manitoba Arts Council and Saskatchewan Arts Council.
The initial residency brought seven artists from Canada, United States and China together to participate in a virtual collaboration over the internet. This initial collaboration resulted in meeting at the Hong Kong Institute of Education for a 3 week residency including access to the printmaking studio, studio visits, workshops, an exhibition and attendance to the 18th Asian International Printmaking Symposium.
Artists participating in the Hong Kong Project Residency were: Jin Bao Ping-Head of the Lithography, Xian Academy of Fine Arts, China, Karen Cornelius- Printmaker/ Educator from Manitoba, Brenda Corriea -Printmaker/Educator, United States, Jane Lui Sui, Printmaker/ Educator, Hong Kong, Nik Semenoff Printmaker/ Professor emeritus from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, Xiao Lan Xiao- Printmaker/Curator, Shanghai Art Museum, China.
