Will There Still Be Papaya? - Painting - 9x12in
Title: Will There Still Be Papaya?
Medium: liquid acrylic
Size: 9x12inin
About This Work:
This liquid acrylic and graphite painting is influenced by my childhood memories of eating papaya every morning for breakfast. I grew up in the Congo, where we had several papaya trees in our yard. Papaya was always available and delicious. This is a fruit that I miss living in North America.
I love drawing awe-inspiring tropical trees and plants. The lush greenery, interspersed with bursts of vivid colors from tropical flowers, captivates my senses and fuels my artistic passion.
However, my joy is tinged with concern for the state of rainforests and forests worldwide. I fear we may lose many of our trees including fruit trees as the climage changes. In my paintings, I incorporate the presence of a ghost tree as a poignant reminder of the trees and species that are vanishing or have already gone extinct. Each lost tree leaves behind a void, an absence that we must acknowledge.
Through my art, I aim to ignite a love affair between viewers and the tropical rainforest. I want to cultivate a deep sense of care and appreciation for the health and survival of our trees and forests globally. It is my hope that this emotional connection will inspire action to preserve and protect these enchanting and vital spaces.
Let us embrace the magic of the rainforest and commit ourselves to be stewards of the earth’s precious trees and forests. Together, we can ensure their preservation for generations to come.
How it Was Made:
This painting was made using liquid acrylic paints on high-quality paper with a collage element of the ghost of a papaya tree.
Please note: colours may appear slightly different on screen than they do in the original.
